My general approach to counselling and psychotherapy draws from several traditions, for I do not believe in any 'one type fits all' philosophy. However, I would place myself firmly in the Humanistic tradition which stresses the importance of a relational-based therapy, and my  course pioneered new integrated approaches that gave me an understanding of a full spectrum of modalities from psychodynamic work, cognitive behavioural  therapy, person-centred work, and TA to existentialism.  I also draw on my experience as a teacher and am constantly learning through allied courses such as those I have undertaken in play therapy and couple counselling. I am currently extending my knowledge of CBT on a course with Dr Adrian Hemmings.

My research for the MA dissertation was about the experience of parents of premature babies, a topic with profound implications for a range of medical and allied professions.  This also led to an interest in trauma counselling and the effects of loss and grief.  I  am happy to undertake work in these areas and am currently acting as a mediator in work based disputes.
I am an experienced assessment counsellor, now teach on counselling courses in Further Education, and have worked closely in the past with GP practices, hospices and teaching hospitals. More recently, I have enjoyed working with local primary schools in helping young children with behavioural and emotional difficulties.

I endeavour to meet all clients with empathy and understanding, to facilitate full discussion of problems as they are presented, while aiming to assist clients in arriving at new perspectives and ways of dealing with their concerns.
